Newcastle United's start to the new season hasn't been the way they wanted. Although the results have been a bit more fortunate in the club's favor, their performance has been far from being convincing. On top of that, the injuries of Callum Wilson, Jammal Lascelles, and Sven Botman have been very troubling for the club.

In particular, the club's forward front has looked lifeless, with the club's priority number 9, Alexander Isak, out of form and their backup, Callum Wilson, injured. In the whole scenario, not only has Wilson's injury been costing the club significantly, but as per recent reports, his potential move could be worse for the club.
Not to forget, the 32-year-old was quite close to leaving Newcastle this summer; however, the forward's back injury kept him stuck at the club. Although the summer window ended with him as such at Newcastle, things could go drastically in the January transfer window. As per reports by The Sun, Wilson is open to a move, understandable given the fact that his contract expires next summer.
However, the operation need not look so simple as viewed from Newcastle's perspective. Currently, the Magpies club only has a prodigy forward, William Osula, who they brought this summer, apart from Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, and has just made his first team debut in the club's 3-1 loss fixture against Fulham.
Clearly, Osula, despite having significant talent, isn't yet ready to fill the backup forward role, and thus, Callum Wilson's sudden departure could have major repercussions in the future. Considering the recent form of Alexander Isak, Wilson's availability is not only required for squad depth purposes but for ensuring tough competition to Isak for a place in the playing XI.
The 32-year-old forward, having spent a significant part of his career at the Tyneside club, is aware of the club's ideologies and playstyle, and apart from the above roles, could prepare Osula for the future. Overall, the Magpies club needs to have Wilson as a part of their roster for the next few seasons till either Osula grows in his role or the club finds a backup replacement.
