Newcastle United beat Tottenham Hotspur by 2-1 at St. James’ Park. Eddie Howe setup the Magpies in a counter attacking system. And, his tactics worked. Harvey Barnes scored the opener before an own goal from Dan Burn tied things up. However, Alexander Isak scored the winner in the 78th minute of the game to clinch all three points for the Magpies. Let’s start this Newcastle player ratings vs Tottenham with Nick Pope (3/10) who struggled playing out from the back. Newcastle cannot do that with him in between the sticks. Tino Livramento (6/10) looked sharp as the right back and improved as the game went on.

Emil Krafth (4/10) looked sluggish and poor defensively. Spurs did not have a proper striker to pile on pressure on him. Dan Burn (5/10) was better of the two centre-backs. However, he did score the only goal for Tottenham. Lloyd Kelly (8/10) was amazing in this game. His passing and intelligent play as the left-back was outstanding.

In the midfield of the Magpies, Sean Longstaff (4/10) did not have a great game as his passing was poor and lost possession a lot. It was surprising to see that Bruno Guimaraes (4/10) was invisible in this game something the fans did not expect. Joelinton (7/10) is continued his good start to the season as he once again pulled off a solid performance.

As far as the attack goes for Newcastle vs Tottenham, Harvey Barnes (8/10) showed in this game why Eddie Howe was so keen to sign him. His goal was stunning. For Alexander Isak (7/10), he had a quite game even though he scored. He had a chance to make it 2-0 for the Magpies; but he failed. The only disappointment in the attack was Anthony Gordon (6/10) who proved to be ineffective in this game.

When it comes to the substitutes, Jacob Murphy (7/10) came on for Harvey Barnes and did an equally good job. Eddie Howe took off Longstaff to bring on Sandro Tonali (6/10) and he did his job. Lewis Hall (6/10) came on for Kelly and he tried his best to fill in. Miguel Almiron (NA/10) was on for Gordon in the dying minutes of the game. For the manager Eddie Howe (7/10), his team selection was spot on and his tactics of playing a counter attacking game against an expansive Spurs team proved to be lethal.
