The much-awaited Premier League fixture, Newcastle United Vs Tottenham Hotspur, has ended, with the Magpies defeating the visitors 2-1. While the overall performance of Howe's side couldn't be called dominating, they certainly pulled a great win against Tottenham Hotspurs. Not only would this win improve the club's ranking in the Premier League table, but it would also give the side the much-needed morale boost.
Isak's 78th-minute winner helps Newcastle register their second PL win
From the very beginning, the match was as enthralling as the football fans had expected it to be. In the 5th minute, Isak came very close to scoring the go-ahead goal, just to be denied by the crossbar. Sooner, a beautiful play from Sven Botman to Gordon ultimately found Barnes on the left; however, he missed the target by a few inches.
In fact, Tottenham didn't have themselves behind in the fixture, as a cross from the right flank had found Romero, who put it with ease past Nick Pope, but the Magpies were lucky enough to have it ruled out. As reflected from Newcastle's past games, once again, Nick Pope was key to declining certain critical Tottenham chances.
However, when Newcastle's opportunity came, they grabbed it with open hands as an effective finish from Harvey Barnes brought the go-ahead goal for Newcastle. Though Howe's side went into halftime in the lead, they couldn't hold the ongoing pressure in the backline as an error in the 56th minute by Dan Burn had the score equalized.
But something similar happened in favor of the Newcastle side in the Bournemouth game, as a lovely run from the super-sub, Murphy, found an easy tap-in for Isak, who made it 2-1 for the Magpies club. And thus, even though Tottenham had many more attempts on goal than Howe's side, the English manager finished with the complete 3 points.
With this win, Newcastle United have moved a step closer to their dream top-4 place in the Premier League table. Currently, with 7 points off the first 3 games, Eddie Howe would be happy to get an impressive start to the new campaign. However, it has been certain that the club needs to improve on certain aspects before the international break ends to continue with better momentum.
