Unfortunately, a lot of the Newcastle news of the last few days has involved Paris Saint-Germain. As the hurt from Tuesday night still plagues Newcastle fans and will do for some time (unless we qualify for the knockout stages), little can be done to rectify the damage which was done by poor UEFA officiating.

Newcastle news: UEFA recognise Kieran Trippier's performance against Kylian Mbappe

However, it's good to know that UEFA aren't completely unintelligent. In fact, the performance body (not linked to the officiating) has recognised one of our players as the man of the match, and praised his performance while making a Kylian Mbappe claim.

I am, of course, referring to Kieran Trippier who was our best player on the night and the person who had the most direct contact with the world's most dangerous attacker Kylian Mbappe.

Speaking about Kieran Trippier's performance, the UEFA Technical Observer Panel (quoted by Geordie Boot Boys), had the following to say about Trippier on the night:

"“He covered the side against the most dangerous attacker perfectly.”"

UEFA on Kieran Trippier

When they say "most dangerous attacker", they are of course referring to Kylian Mbappe. He was a goal scorer on the night but in truth, he shouldn't have ben gifted the penalty and he should've walked away empty-handed since Kieran Trippier did an exceptional job of dealing with him.

Kieran Trippier has been one of our best players this season as his performances are consistently great. While we don't rely on him, his effortless work in both halves doesn't go overlooked. Since his altercation with a fan, Trippier has really stepped up and taken this team by the scruff of the neck. If we are to finish in the top four again this season, it will be a testament to him.
