Newcastle United took the three points with a 1-0 win over Southampton in the opening Premier League match. However, the Magpies struggled to create more chances in that match after Schar's red card in the first half. Although Joelinton scored the only goal of the match to give Eddie Howe's side the win, more improvements were expected from Newcastle United who had a week to prepare for the away fixture against Bournemouth.

The Magpies faced a 2-0 defeat against Bournemouth last season, thus, wanted to take the three points in this match. Eddie Howe's side started well in the first fifteen minutes, but, then had to defend several chances as Bournemouth made several key passes inside the final third. With ten minutes remaining in the first half, Tavernier gave Bournemouth the 1-0 lead after scoring the opening goal.

In search of an equaliser, Newcastle United again created several chances in the second half. Star forward Anthony Gordon scored to make it 1-1, but, the Magpies couldn't create more goal scoring opportunities in the match. Further, Bournemouth scored in the last minute of the game, but the goal was offside which meant Newcastle took a point from this match.

Now, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has spoken about the Magpies performance in the match, saying,

"Newcastle were lucky, I don’t know, I hope I’m wrong, but I just get the feeling as if there’s, something doesn’t look right, you know. I don’t get the feeling that it’s all perfect at the football club."

Hence, Newcastle United need to improve their squad to aim for a top four finish in the Premier League. For that they need to sign a new centre back and an another forward who can score more goals for Eddie Howe's side.
