Newcastle injury news: Reports of a significant Joelinton injury update

According to reports in England, including from the Express, Joelinton has travelled to Barcelona in order to progress with his surgery. For those who don't know, Joelinton will miss the rest of the season to allow plenty of time to recover from the surgery, which tends to have a long recovery timeframe.

Joelinton has been in and out of the squad with injury concerns, which is a hindrance to the club since we are much better with him in the team than out of the team. Certainly, Eddie Howe would prefer to have the energetic and versatile Brazilian available for selection, since he could be the driving force we miss to integrate midfield and attack.

Newcastle have multiple injury concerns in the midfield and unfortunately, Joelinton is one of them. At times this season, he has proven he can be the man for the big occasion but unfortunately, we haven't been able to rely on him as often as we would have liked to.

I guess the good news is that Joelinton is travelling to a specialist country for specialist treatment. While we wouldn't like to see any of our players put through surgery, if it benefits them in the long-run then it's good the club is being so efficient in dealing with the concern.

An interesting angle to view this news from is the looming contract situation. Joelinton is one of the players entering the final season of his contract, as next summer he will be out of contract. Hopefully, Newcastle can find a way to work with the player in his recovery, to ensure his long-term future at the club.
