The weekend's Premier League fixture was a great one as we got an invaluable three points against Fulham. It also saw the return of some key players to both the starting eleven and sub bench. However, the game was quickly overcasted by a negative light when it saw Fabian Schar subbed off early doors through an injury.
Given the injury crisis, I'm sure that Howe and Schar himself would have wanted to keep things as they were had the injury not been serious. But for Schar to be subbed off that early on caused anxiety for the supporters, as it became clear that there was an issue worthy of a sub.
Now that a couple of days have passed, some more light has been shed on the situation. The player himself has posted to Instagram to provide an update. In the caption, he simply captioned "hope to be back soon" but this didn't provide anything new to the Newcastle fanbase, since we ALSO want him to be back soon.
Newcastle injury news: Fabian Schar shares injury update - He could be out for 2023
Trying to provide a little more information on the injury, though, is Shields Gazette. In their injury news roundup, they claimed that the expected return date for Fabian Schar isn't until next year, when we face Sunderland of all teams in the FA Cup. I guess you could say it's good that he'll be back for the derby at least, but this is an underwhelming return date from a Newcastle perspective.
This means that both Fabian Schar and Joelinton, the two players subbed off in that game against Fulham, will miss the midweek fixture against Chelsea in the EFL Cup. Although, the report does suggest that Joelinton could be back sooner, just a couple of days before Christmas when we face Luton.
