While Newcastle fans don't look back on Wednesday night in the Champions League with any fond memories, it was good to see the anticipcated Dan Burn injury return. It felt like a long time coming and with all the Newcastle injury news in the buildup looking positive for the big man, it was great to see him get a cameo in the second half.

When he came on, he played as if he had never left. He put in some excellent defensive contributions, including a block which could've easily been a goal for AC Milan. Unfortunately, his return from injury was overshadowed by the poor result, but it's good to have him back nevertheless.

Dan Burn may have a big part to play in December, as the fixture list looks more congested than ever. Particularly when you consider that Kieran Trippier is more than likely to miss Newcastle vs Fulham, the signals are pointing towards Burn starting in this weekend's fixture.

But speaking out on his return from injury, Dan Burn has revealed that he could have done with more time to recover. Quoted by Shields Gazette, here's what the big man had to say:

"“Ideally, I could have done with another few weeks but the way it is at the minute, you’ve just got to push through it. I felt good and I had no pain whilst I was out there, I just hadn’t kicked a ball in five weeks so it takes a little while to get back up to speed. I’m happy to be back and helping the lads.”"

While we never like to see a player rush their return from injury in case of risking further injury, it's great to see that Dan Burn felt it within himself to progress faster than anticipated. Admittedly, it was a surprise to see him come back so soon but it was a case of when need's must, and it shows the commitment he has to the team.
