Coming on the back of a disappointing performance against Fulham, many concerns were being raised about Newcastle for their clash against Manchester City; however, they would be happy to finish it with a point. Although the Magpies' performance wasn't completely convincing, they did enough to deprive Pep's Man City of the complete 3 points.

As was expected, Manchester City seemed a bit off-color in converting chances in the absence of de Bruyne and Rodri, but credit needs to be given to the Magpies' backline to restrict the Cityzens to a 1-1 draw. Especially the Englishman Nick Pope did a great job for the Magpies in the goal, denying the visitors several opportunities.
From the very beginning, Manchester City, as it has been known, were fancying their offensive chances all around. Being a bit lucky on times, and a few brilliant saves from Pope, the score remained nil-nil until a brilliant run from Jack Grealish, dribbling past Trippier, found Gvardiol in the box, who with a calm and composed finish made it 1-0 for Pep's Man City.
With the goal coming in the 35th minute, the Cityzens became much more attacking on Newcastle's goal end. In fact, a blooper from Nick Pope in the 40th minute had given them a counterattack opportunity with Pope much outside of the goal line, but fortunately, Gundogan couldn't finish it off well. Although a bit of a chance was created by the Magpies at the stroke of the 1st half, it remained 1-0 going into the break.
However, things changed for Newcastle soon, as minutes after halftime, Gordon, with a brilliant run, grabbed a penalty at the far end, giving himself the best opportunity to score. As was expected, the 23-year-old sent Ederson to the other side, bringing the much-needed equalizer for Eddie Howe's side.
Though continuous attempts from both clubs were seen further, the final whistle saw it remain 1-1 at St. James Park. With this draw, Eddie Howe's Newcastle has grabbed an important point for themselves, continuing their series of decent performances against Manchester City. Having 11 points from six matchdays, the Magpies club moves to a respectable 5th position, above Chelsea.
