Newcastle United, after a series of disappointing performances, seem to be improving for the better as they restricted Man City to a 1-1 draw at St. James. Although it wasn't a completely convincing performance either, Newcastle boss Howe and players would be very happy for an important point from the fixture.

Not only did this game bring Newcastle United back to the 5th spot, but rather it helped some of the club's biggest names get back to form. Be it Anthony Gordon, who scored the equalizer, or Club Captain Guimaraes, who looked much better against Manchester City, or Joelinton's return to form, who was elemental in the 1-1 draw for Eddie Howe's side. While the return of form for Gordon and Guimaraes was expected soon, Joelinton's recovery sounds much more satisfying, given he hasn't felt at his best physically.

After being the MOTM in the season opener, the 28-year-old Brazilian powerhouse had a series of underwhelming performances, much influenced by his groin injury. However, now the midfield ace seems back to his best, as he tirelessly covered every blade of the grass for the Magpies club, being one of the best players in the fixture. In fact, former PL midfielder and now Football Pundit Joe Cole praised him, saying he could have won the MOTM as well.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Cole described Joelinton's performance, saying,

"“Joelinton was brilliant today. He was playing a dual role—central midfield, getting on the press; he was dropping at left back; dealing with Haaland at times when he was dropping into the back five. He could have easily been the Man of the Match as well.”"

As Cole mentioned, playing a rather balanced role on the offensive and defensive front, Joelinton was easily one of the best players in the matchday. Combining brilliantly with Club Captain Bruno Guimaraes and Italian ace Sandro Tonali, the trio did what was expected from them to earn some points for Newcastle United.

Overall, Joelinton's return to form, along with the fixture showing improved signs in Gordon and Captain Guimaraes, Newcastle's outing against Manchester City proved very beneficial for the club. With the morale boost from this fixture, Newcastle fans would hope the club to fight for the complete 3 points against Everton and Brighton in the upcoming matchdays.
