- Newcastle United had a considerably cold transfer window, with the club missing out on key prospects.
It has been significantly evident that Newcastle United had yet another cold transfer window this summer, with the club failing to bring their desired reinforcements to the club. While Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi deal and Nottingham's Anthony Elanga have been the much-known cases of Newcastle's transfer event, recent reports suggest that the club missed out on a perfect club player.
Fabrizio Romano reports Newcastle missed on 'perfect player' in the summer window
Recently, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano gave massive insights on how Newcastle United failed on a prospect that could have been crucial for them. Romano has indicated that at a point, Chelsea was thinking about Noni Madueke's future, whom Newcastle United has been looking for as their top transfer prospect.
However, what has been the shocking part is that Newcastle United, despite having an interest in the player, neither had any talks nor made a bid for the 22-year-old. As per Fabrizio, there was some serious possibility of a Madueke move in June; however, the Magpies didn't even try on who was called the 'perfect player' for the club.
Another major factor that didn't go in the Magpies' favor is that Chelsea's new in, Enzo Maresca, recognized Noni's true potential soon and halted any move for him. Ultimately, without even a bid made or any negotiation held, Newcastle had to look for other options in the transfer market.
Analyzing from Newcastle's current perspective, it can be said that the club missing out on the £60M hadn't been detrimental for the club so far. Currently, with three wins and a draw from their four PL fixtures, the club finds itself in a comfortable 3rd position with a chance to go to the top after winning against Fulham. And a possible move might have taken a significant toll on the club's financial issues.
But the fact that this failure hasn't been impacting the club is very wrong. So far this season Newcastle's priority right winger, Jacob Murphy, has looked rather miserable, still finding his first goal contribution of the new campaign. On the other hand, Madueke has been shining all around for Chelsea, having 4 goals from his 5 appearances this season.
Overall, while a potential move by Madueke might have solved Newcastle's right-wing issue for years to come, the harsh truth is that they need to continue with the available options till the January window. Newcastle fans and the club would hope to look forward, not stressing much about the past, and continue their tussle for a UCL spot this season.
