Chelsea team news

For once, it isn't Newcastle who have the toughest time in terms of injuries. The home side in this match have also been plagued by their own injury crisis, with Mauricio Pochettino struggling to name his strongest XI all season.

As per FotMob, Robert Sanchez, Noni Madueke, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James and Marc Cucurella will all miss this game through injury, while Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu and Romeo Lavia are all doubtful.

Chelsea do have a squad the size of Newcastle as a city, so that's important to mention.

Newcastle team news

At the weekend, Eddie Howe had the misfortune of watching Joelinton and Fabian Schar subbed off through injury. Eddie Howe has provided a bit of reassurance via the Northern Echo on those two injuries by claiming they're short-term, but he won't comment on their place in the game against Chelsea which makes me think they'll be missing.

""We don't think they're serious, but certainly to come off the pitch, they're short-term problems for us that we can't navigate easily at the moment.""

Sven Botman and Dan Burn did play in that match, which was great to see.

Other injuries include Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson, Nick Pope, Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy, Matt Targett and Javier Manquillo, as they are ruled out for this match. Kieran Trippier and Alexander Isak require further assessment, so it's essentially a race against time for those two.

Sandro Tonali is suspended and Lewis Hall is ruled out due to being on loan from Chelsea, so they will miss this match.

Chelsea vs Newcastle score prediction

Both teams have this game to fight for since it's a genuine shot of silverware, however, I do think Newcastle hit form at the right time. With some key players returning to the eleven, they'll have enough to edge through this match, I think it will end Chelsea 0-2 Newcastle.
