Newcastle United's recent comeback win against Wolves was one of a kind, proving necessary for boosting the club's overall morale. However, while stars like Harvey Barnes, Sandro Tonali, and Joe Willock helped the club leave the fixture with all 3 points, all didn't go well for the Magpies club against Wolves.
21-year-old prodigy could be a viable replacement for Newcastle star forward
Not to forget, Harvey Barnes' incoming was done by Newcastle boss Eddie Howe to ease out star forward Alexander Isak's facial injury. At the stroke of halftime, Isak faced an unfortunate facial impact, which was reported to have caused vision problems for the star, thus forcing him to be subbed off.
Although Newcastle managed to end up the night with a win, the club has some significantly crucial games coming their way, and as reports suggest, Isak's availability might be compromised in some. In such a scenario, Howe is left with two broad options: switch Gordon to the front as he did against the Wolves or try out their 21-year-old prodigy, William Osula.
Early this summer, Osula joined the Magpies club for a fee of around £10 million, but given Isak's stature at the club, he hasn't gotten any game time so far. But now that Isak's availability is under question, things might favor a debut for the 21-year-old's debut, who has been much praised by football pundits.
Before the club's fixture against Fulham, Eddie Howe had this to say about the youngster,
"“I know he hasn’t played any minutes yet, but we’ve been delighted with his progress. He’s got all the tools, so we feel we’ve got good cover.""
- Eddie Howe
Further, the English manager mentioned the youngster's commitment to football and the club, believing that he could grow significantly at the club. Howe has significantly high hopes for Osula, as was clear from his statement. Eddie mentioned,
"“He’s someone that we really do like. There’s always a process. It’s a big move for him. He’s adapted well to that, I have to say. He’s very mature, comes in with a big smile on his face every day, committed to his work.""
- Eddie Howe
Realistically speaking, chances are less that having considerably less Premier League exposure, Howe would award Osula the game time against Fulham. However, significant chances could arise for him in the next game, as the Magpies club goes against Wimbledon, which would be great exposure for the 21-year-old. Given the talent he possesses, Newcastle fans would want the youngster to go on to become a generational forward, registering his legacy in Newcastle's rich history.
