Newcastle United's 2024/25 campaign so far has been quite underwhelming. Being winless from the last 4 PL matches, the Magpies club has slipped down to the 9th position, having 12 points from the 8 matchdays. While certainly, the club's form hasn't been commendable as well, a poor transfer window hasn't helped their case either, who are struggling to collect points now.

Considering the same, the Magpies Club has decided to reinforce the roles they had tried to do in the summer but failed. Although Newcastle has prioritized a right-wing signing, chances are significant they might reignite their interest in spending on a high-profile center-back. Fortunately, recent reports hint in Newcastle's favor for one of their most sought transfer prospects this summer.

Crystal Palace's ace defender Marc Guehi, who has been one of the best prospects in the PL lately, has been in the late year of his club contract, with a lot of clubs targeting him. As per reports, the Big 6 giants, Arsenal and Liverpool, were monitoring the player as well, alongside Newcastle, who has been eyeing him since the summer. However, it feels like the Magpies club has an added advantage now, with Liverpool almost out of the defender's race.

Arne Slot's Liverpool, who has had a brilliant start to the new season, went to the table-top position once again as they defeated Chelsea, 2-1. Obviously, the win definitely came as a big positive for the Reds, but, more importantly, their superstar defensive ace, Virgil Van Dijk, made a brilliant announcement after the fixture. As per reports from the Telegraph, the Dutch star hinted towards a contract renewal, which was to run down next summer.

From Newcastle's perspective, even though Van Dijk's contract renewal might not seem directly connected, in reality, it could ease their way into Guehi's deal. Liverpool's desire to obtain Marc Guehi was highly concentrated with the view to see Van Dijk's successor in case he didn't renew, but the defender's stay could eliminate their need to invest in the English international.

Clearly, Newcastle does enjoy a crucial advantage in Marc Guehi's situation; however, still much needs to fall into place for the club to acquire the defender. However, given that the club is looking forward to bolstering its defense this time, chances could arise for the club to make a remarkable effort for Guehi in January.
