Newcastle United had an underwhelming 2024/25 summer transfer window. With the club failing to land any of their much-needed requirements, a right-footed center-back and a right-wing prodigy forward, the Magpies enjoyed little to no major positives from the transfer event. However, while they are reported to reignite interest in their shortlisted names in the January window, sources suggest they might face serious competition this time.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, having star defenders Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles injured, Newcastle's priority list had a center-back reinforcement. Looking among the options, they had decided to pursue 24-year-old defensive ace Marc Guehi. Coming on the back of a star-making Euro campaign, backed by his consistent PL seasons, the Senegalese defender's profile promised to be an ideal one for the Magpies.

Unfortunately, even though Newcastle made several attempts, putting in various bids, trying to finalize a deal with Crystal Palace for Guehi, they had to return empty-handed. Upon being asked £75 million for the star defender, the Magpies decided to walk away from the player's deal. However, given their current scenario, the club still could reignite interest in Marc Guehi in the upcoming January window.

As per reports from GIVEMESPORT, the Magpies club is, in fact, open to plans of making a fresh move for Guehi in January. However, the reports further indicate that things could go against their will this time as well, with many rival clubs close in monitoring the defender's situation. Moreover, possibilities could arise that Newcastle would have to counter Chelsea to acquire the star center-back.

Given the fact that talks between Crystal Palace and Marc Guehi haven't materialized, with the player giving indications of an exit move, he would attract serious offers from the biggest European clubs. Thus, overall, even though Guehi is close to entering the final 18 months of his contract at Selhurst Park, the Magpies club would need significant spending to sign him in the upcoming transfer window.
