Newcastle United's 2024/25 season so far hasn't been the way they had expected it to be. While they do rank 7th, having 12 points from the seven Premier League matchdays, they haven't been consistently convincing this season. In fact, apart from a few exceptional displays in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City and against Southampton in the season opener, the side has looked rather sloppy in other instances.

Their recent outing against Everton was one such fixture, where Eddie Howe's unit failed terribly to convert the chances that came their way. Despite their midfielders putting up a decent effort at the center of the park, the Magpies club looked awful in the final third. However, that came in the absence of a conventional forward upfront, with Anthony Gordon shifting from his wing position to fill in the role.

While Newcastle players certainly haven't impressed the club fans convincingly, the role of constant injuries and a failed transfer window can't be neglected either. Given that going forward in the season, their squad strength would improve, with star forwards Isak and Wilson to return soon, the club's owners are still optimistic about a great season ahead.

In fact, reports suggest that PIF believes that the club missing out on a European competition this season could work in favor of the side instead of the obvious disappointment. As per The Chronicle, PIF views the club as having a brilliant opportunity to make it to the PL top-5 as well as win one of the two Championship Cups, having not to worry about European fixtures this season.

Not to forget, manager Eddie Howe had led the club pretty close to the EFL Trophy; however, a disappointing loss at Wembley ruined their chances in the 2022/23 season. While it had come at a time when they had UCL fixtures as well, the Saudi owners believe it could be a brilliant chance for the club to end their trophy drought.

So far, the Magpies club has been decent in the EFL competition, having made it to the Round of 16, where they would face Chelsea next. Given the fixture would be a brilliant opportunity for the club to keep its Trophy hopes alive, Newcastle fans would hope to emerge victorious from the much-awaited matchday.
