Newcastle United have finally secured the signing of a striker in the form of Nick Woltemade recently. He is set to be announced soon by the club officially. This is the Magpies’ fifth signing of the summer, and fans will be really happy with the club’s progress.

That said, Newcastle are still in the market for a backup striker and will have to sort out the Alexander Isak chapter as well. Nevertheless, Yoane Wissa is one of the names linked with the club for a long time. The saga for the DR Congo international has dragged on longer than previously anticipated, and fans have been growing anxious as the transfer deadline approaches fast. Now, reports have emerged with further bad news for the Magpies.

According to Football Insider senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke, who spoke on the Inside Track Podcast, Brentford value Wissa at £50 million and above and have already rejected two bids of £25m and £35m from Newcastle this summer. With the deadline in two days’ time, the Magpies are running out of time to sign the forward, as Brentford also race against time to find a replacement before they can sanction his sale.

Newcastle have looked to sign Wissa for better part of the summer. The 28-year-old striker has even made the decision to stop playing for Brentford to force an exit and has reiterated his wish to join the Magpies on multiple occasions. He was missing from the Bees first two Premier League matchups and isn’t expected to return against Sunderland either.

It is widely believed that Brentford will let the player leave if they manage to sign a replacement soon. However, it seems really difficult for the clubs involved to do so much work in such little time.

All thing’s considered, Newcastle can still make a final push for the striker before the transfer window draws to a close. Failing to sign another forward can prove to be costly down the road as the Isak situation remains hanging in the balance.

Apart from Wissa, Newcastle have also made a move for Jorgen Strand Larsen, but Wolves are holding firm on their high valuation of the player, and it is another deal that is expected to slip away. That said, it remains to be seen if the Magpies can pull off a transfer twist to complete another signing before the deadline or if they are done for the window.
