Newcastle United didn't make particularly easy work of Millwall this evening but, ultimately, the Magpies managed to finish the job courtesy of a tidy move than ended with Joe Willock's second goal of the season.
Milwall caused some problems for Jaissle's side and the low block proved difficult to pierce for the majority of the 90 minutes, something which the Magpies will have to be quick to address going forward.

Player Ratings
GK: Hornicek - 7:
The Czech didn't have too much to do but made a couple of routine stops when needed.
There maybe could have been a little more calmness and accuracy with the ball at his feet, but for the most part it never really felt like he was under much pressure. Decent showing.
RB: Dedic - 5:
Difficult to really give too much substance about Dedic as he went off at half time with what is now being reported as a hamstring injury... please don't be properly injured.
The first half was a difficult on all things considered and Dedic didn't stand out either positively or negatively, straight down the middle seems fair.
CB: Fabian Schar - 7:
I actually quite enjoyed Fabian Schar's return to the starting XI. A nice few raking balls in the first half looked the most likely source of opening Milwall up and he could have won two penalties on another day.
Defensively he felt the most solid of two centre backs and you could see that little bit of experience showing through against a physical Championship side.
CB: Sven Botman - 5:
Maybe I'm being harsh here but I really don't feel I am so we'll run with it. The once revered Rolls Royce centre half that was Sven Botman simply fails to fill me with confidence when I watch him play anymore.
In possession he worries me almost every time he gets it, the one thing I will say about him today is his defensive contributions mounted up quite nicely by the end of the game which probably saves him a little bit.
It's still a five though - I'm praying he see him back at the pre injury level soon, poor guy has been ruined.
LB: Lewis Hall - 8:
Well, well, well - if it isn't Lewis Hall putting in another wonderful performance from left back. Who'd have thought?
Assured defensively, including one specific recovery that stands out to be as particularly memorable, a perfectly timed overlapping run to provide the assist for Willock that ultimately won the game.
Some really nice moments of progression as well with the ball at his feet, which we all know he can do so well by now. Nice stuff Lewis, an eight for your troubles good sir.
CM: Nico Gonzalez - 5:
I wasn't particularly enamoured with Nico's performance this evening and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
He gave the ball away in a couple of dangerous areas, continued the concerning trend of giving away fouls in needless areas and actually faded into the background of a game that was there to take by the scruff of its neck.
Of the two midfielders, he wasn't the one whose game I enjoyed. Five for the Spaniard.
CM: Jacob Ramsey - 7:
I already know people will disagree with this, but when you see it, you'll never be able to unsee it.
I'm not gonna sit here and pretend it was the flashiest of performances, but I actually think he was hung out to dry on numerous occasions by Nico and Willock leaving him stranded in a midfield no man's land.
Most of the threat in the first half involved him in some capacity, he got us going forward on multiple occasions and won four fouls as a result. Just a nice, tidy and forward-thinking performance which will be slandered for absolutely no apparent reason.
A seven for JJ, I'll give him the love even if no-one else will.
RW: Jacob Murphy - 3:
I fully understand the decision to keep him at the football club this summer, but boy is he making it hard.
He tried 10 crosses during the game and one of them registered as successful... he's a winger... that simply can't run.
There's no doubt he's past his best and it's okay to use him in a game like that to rest others, but he always then needs to come off for us to actual win those games, so is there really much point?
CAM: Joe Willock - 5:
The goal saves him, it really does - but it is difficult to argue if he's going to keep popping up with contributions I suppose.
I wrote and article the other day about how he cause almost all of our problems against Bournemouth and today didn't really feel any different.
Joe Willock has a very specific type of game he is really good for and it mostly coincides with a high number of transitions and turnovers. That today was NOT that type of game and it really showed his lack of ability to show for the ball in between the lines and unlock a door when we need it.
LW: Harvey Barnes - 6:
It was decent from Barnes. Minus the goal there's an argument it was a little better than Bournemouth at the weekend too.
That understanding with Hall seems to be shining through a lot more now than it did in the opening couple of games and those overlapping runs from the fullback are definitely unlocking more doors for Barnes to take on his man.
A good, solid six feels right. Nothing special but its honest work type performance.
ST: Yoane Wissa - 6:
Wissa was very much a product of the environment he was playing in today. There were moments that looked bright with a couple of decent moves in the first half.
Ultimately, there just wasn't really the service there for him to be able to affect the game in the ways that we have seen so far this season.
It's a six because you can't really blame him and he did a solid job with the scraps he had to work with.
Substitutes
Tino Livramento - 5
Tino did nearly give away a goal at 0-0 and it would have been a really bad mistake but he did just about get away with it courtesy of the woodwork. Other than that there wasn't much to see, a five feels fine.
Anthony Elanga - 6
Elanga looked reasonably lively when he came on and was definitely aided by the goal which opened the game up for the final 10 or so minutes. In fact, he actually should have scored but could only hit his effort straight at the goalkeeper.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo - 6
Another pretty bright cameo from the Belgian. Was involved in the build up to the goal, clearly has a serious amount of pace running off the shoulder and looks to possess a little bit of technical pizazz.
