Newcastle United have had an underwhelming 2024/25 season so far. Firstly, missing out on various opportunities to strengthen their roster in the summer window and now struggling as a result of this, the Magpies club feels stuck in an unfavorable situation. Having had the last 4 PL games without a win registered to their name, Newcastle finds themselves in the 9th position.
Newcastle United confident of renewing £63M star amidst Arsenal links
Moreover, although some days ago, the Magpies club felt a huge relief in their off-field concerns with manager Howe remaining at the club, they now face new issues. After having renewed star winger Anthony Gordon recently, Newcastle had been hoping to renew star forward Isak soon, but things don't seem going in the club's favor.
As reports had mentioned, Isak's renewal demands two major things to fall into place for the Swedish International to continue past June 2028. Although the performances the forward has given in his club spell so far, making him the highest earner won't be that drastic for Newcastle, the club might have a hard time fulfilling the second demand. Given their recent form, Howe's side could miss on European qualification, which goes against Isak's desire to compete there.
Moreover, what hasn't been in Newcastle's favor is Arsenal's interest in their £63M star forward. Although Mikel Arteta's side had failed to convince Isak of a move in the summer, the Gunners might go full-fledged for the Swedish star this time. As per reports from The Standard, Arsenal would enter the market for a new striker in the summer of 2025, and having eyed Isak from his La Liga days, chances could arise for them to target him again.
But, having said that, Newcastle has an agreement with Isak till 2028, so don't fear about a move in the next few months. Thus, even though Arsenal's interest is concerning to a bit extent, the Magpies side is confident that Isak would ultimately agree to a deal in the future. According to TBR Football insider Graeme Smith,
"“From Newcastle’s point of view, they are still hopeful and confident that he will sign. I think they would like it done and dusted before January.”"Graeme Smith
Overall, for Newcastle, Isak's agreement doesn't seem to be an urgent concern anymore. Given this, not only would the club feel more focused on their upcoming fixture against Chelsea, but it could also give them the required time to decide upon Isak's salary demands, considering his next performances. Newcastle fans would hope that the Swedish star returns to his best soon, playing a crucial role in their European qualification chances.
