Joe Willock’s time at Newcastle United has been defined by key goals, tireless running, and a professional attitude. But with competition for places in Eddie Howe’s midfield at an all-time high, the 25-year-old may soon be facing a big decision.

Now, according to Football Insider, former Premier League scout Mick Brown has revealed that Crystal Palace are ready to make Willock their number one target this summer. The Eagles have been monitoring his situation closely and are confident that a deal can be done.

Willock has played a valuable role since arriving from Arsenal, but he is no longer guaranteed a starting place. With Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Sean Longstaff, and Sandro Tonali in the mix for next season, minutes will be hard to come by. Palace believe they can offer the consistency Willock craves.

Newcastle transfer news: Crystal Palace prioritise Joe Willock move

Speaking to Football Insider, Mick Brown explained:

"“Crystal Palace are going to explore a deal for Joe Willock. Palace always do their due diligence and have had scouts watching him this season when they can.”"

He added:

"“They want to strengthen their squad and back the manager because they’ve been terrific this season and might end up as FA Cup winners. Willock isn’t going to get in the Newcastle team and I hear he’s one they’d be willing to let go.”"

Willock’s talent is not in question. His energy and ability to drive from midfield has often changed games for Newcastle. But as Brown pointed out, he is not a regular starter – and that could influence both his and the club’s thinking.

Willock exit only possible at the right price

Newcastle have no urgent need to sell Joe Willock. He remains under contract and is well respected by Eddie Howe and his coaching staff. However, the club are also looking to reshape the squad slightly this summer, and that could open the door for strategic sales.

As Brown put it:

"“It would have to be the right money for the club as well, of course. He’s been a reliable player for Newcastle, he always comes into the team and does his job, but he’s not a starter in that midfield and he’ll want to be playing regular football.”"

Crystal Palace see Willock as the ideal fit for their system. He brings power, pressing ability, and experience – all qualities the London club value. And for Willock himself, a move to Selhurst Park could provide the guaranteed game time he may not find at St James’ Park.

This could be one to watch over the coming weeks. For now, Joe Willock remains a Newcastle player. But if Palace are serious – and if Newcastle receive a suitable offer – a summer departure cannot be ruled out.

We will continue to monitor this Newcastle transfer news as Crystal Palace step up their efforts to sign Joe Willock.
