Newcastle United's 2024/25 summer transfer window was a disappointing one, as the club failed to land the desired targets of manager Eddie Howe. Losing to materialize deals with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi and Nottingham for Elanga, the Magpies club had to enter the new season with almost the same roster. While certainly, Elanga's deal collapse did mean something to the club, they were majorly disappointed by Marc Guehi's deal failure.

However, while many could hold sporting director Mitchell responsible for the failure, he did the reasonable, walking away from Crystal Palace's £75 million demand on the penultimate deadline day. But, clearly, while Mitchell took a fairly reasonable decision to not overpay for Guehi, the club's scenario still points out that they might need to reignite interest in the 24-year-old in the January window. However, things might be easy this time for the Magpies club, as recent reports suggest.

As reports from the Daily Mail suggest, the South Londoners find themselves moving closer to the idea of selling him, given his contract runs down in June 2026. As things stand, any contract renewal negotiations don't sound concrete between Guehi and Palace, indicating the center-back's willingness to make an exit move. Thus, given that the Senegalese power-back is close to entering the last 18 months, Crystal Palace would want to cash him, not wanting to let him go for free.

In fact, TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey had a similar notion on Guehi's transfer situations arising in the near future. On the player's recent indications in response to the idea of contract renewal, Bailey mentioned,

"“He’s got a contract with Crystal Palace until 2026, and there is no prospect of him signing a new one at the moment.”"

Moreover, being wise enough to clearly identify Newcastle's ever-growing interest in Marc Guehi, having their star defenders injured, Bailey said,

"“It’s been a strange start to the season for him and Palace. He’s still a player that Newcastle likes a lot, clearly. They’re still interested. Eddie Howe still wants him, and so does Paul Mitchell.""

Clearly, as the current scenario looks, with no renewal talks seeming to materialize between Guehi and Crystal Palace, the Magpies club find themselves in the most advantageous position. While this does mean that the South London club would be more willing to sell him this time, it indicates that Newcastle might have him for around £60 million, much less than Crystal Palace had asked for him last time. Newcastle fans would hope that the transfer becomes feasible, with their side being armored with one of the best defenders in the PL currently.
