Newcastle United's 2024/25 summer transfer window was quite an underwhelming one. Failing to bring in the desired reinforcements, Marc Guehi for the center-back role and wing prodigy Anthony Elanga, the Magpies club had little to no major positives from the transfer event. However, while such a poor transfer performance didn't just frustrate the club fans, it is being much reflected in their season display now.
Newcastle's situation in 24-year-old PL star's transfer move complicates
With 12 points from the first 8 PL matchdays, the Magpies club finds themselves in the 9th position. Although so far, the unit hasn't been clearly convincing in any major aspect, their problems on the forward front, in particular on the right flank, have been grave. Given the poor form that Toon players Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron have been in, it looks certain that they would need to reinforce the position as a priority in January.
Fortunately, earlier reports clearly indicated that director Paul Mitchell prioritizes wing signings and might be willing to pay a hefty fee if he finds value in the player. Regarding the same, Newcastle United was reported to be monitoring ace 24-year-old prodigy star Antoine Semenyo. However, recent reports on the player's potential deal find much against the Magpies' favor.
While Semenyo, who has had a brilliant start to the 2024/25 campaign, having 4 goal contributions already in 9 appearances, has attracted many clubs, including Newcastle, it seems that a move for the player any soon wouldn't be possible. As per reports from TalkSPORT, the player's club, Bournemouth, is much relaxed about his future, having renewed him till 2029. Moreover, the Cherries club won't be considering offers, except for extraordinarily hefty deals for the Ghanaian winger.
Considering the financial constraints Newcastle finds itself in, having merely escaped PSR deductions this summer, at the cost of two prodigy stars, it is highly unlikeable that they would spend this massive on Semenyo. Thus, even though Newcastle is interested in the player, the most possible solution for them is to hunt for a player of the same profile in different markets, which could reduce their signing cost drastically.
Not to forget, Toon stars like Club Captain Bruno Guimaraes and ace star Sven Botman were signed by the club from Ligue 1 and improvised significantly to the stage they have reached today. Overall, while certainly Semenyo being unavailable for a considerable transfer fee comes against Newcastle's favor, they should continue searching out players in different leagues to get the best talent at a reasonable fee.
