Newcastle United have recently turned things around in the transfer market, with their list of major arrivals reaching three which include Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, and Malick Thiaw. They have reportedly also secured the signature of Jacob Ramsey who is awaiting an official announcement. That said, the void of a reliable new striker still remains unfulfilled. With Alexander Isak seemingly determined to leave St James’ Park this season, the Magpies will need to find a solution soon.
One of the names heavily linked with the club is Yoane Wissa, and a deal could be on the horizon with Brentford reportedly securing a deal for Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara, which could pave the way for the DR Congo international’s departure. Additionally, Newcastle appear to be keeping their options open and monitoring other potential candidates as well, maybe as an alternative or an addition following the signing of Wissa.
According to the Daily Mail, Paris Saint-Germain forward Goncalo Ramos continues to be an option for the Magpies, with the Portugal forward having admirers within St James' Park. As a result, a deal could be possible.
Ramos was impressive last season at PSG, with the club lifting their first Champions League trophy. He finished the campaign with 19 goals and six assists. The striker also played a key part in the Parisian club’s recent win over Tottenham, scoring the equalising goal in added time, with PSG later coming through on penalties.
Newcastle United remain interested in PSG star Goncalo Ramos
Newcastle have previously been linked with Ramos, dating back to his time at Benfica. However, Isak was available then, and the club chose to sign him instead. That decision has paid off till now, but the waters around Isak have been muddied in the recent saga. So the fans shouldn’t be surprised if the club decides to bring in Ramos to lead the attack.
However signing the forward won't be easy, as PSG are not expected to let him go for cheap. Moreover, the Portuguese international has recently spoken of his desire to stay in Paris which presents another hurdle for the Magpies.
Newcastle are currently laid thin in the striker department, with William Osula as the only natural striker available to Howe for the club’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa after Isak has refused to play. So the sooner the Magpies succeed in signing a new face up front, the better.
The ideal situation for Newcastle will be to bring in two new strikers, and Wissa and Ramos will certainly be excellent choices. All things considered, let’s see how many of these transfer speculations end up being true.
