Newcastle United lost their primary striker, Alexander Isak, to Liverpool in the closing stages of the transfer window. The Magpies tried their best to keep the Swede at the club but ultimately failed in their efforts and agreed to a £130 million deal to part ways with the player.
That said, barring the departure of Isak, the core team remained largely untouched. Additionally, the club also brought major reinforcements to the squad as they signed six new players. The team is set for now, at least for the next few months.
However, it seems Manchester City have set their eyes on one of Newcastle's regulars for a future move if reports are to be believed. According to Football Insider, former Manchester United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown has revealed that Tino Livramento is near the top of City’s list of transfer targets.
Newcastle’s Tino Livramento appears as one of the top candidates on Manchester City’s transfer targets
Newcastle brought Livramento from Southampton in 2021 for a fee of €37.20 million. He has secured a regular spot in Eddie Howe’s squad and is one of the key pieces in defence. While the English international’s primary position is at right back, he can play on the left flank as well.
In the last season, Livramento appeared in as many as 45 matches for the Magpies. In this campaign, he has started in all three matches and picked up an assist as well.
Although the transfer window is still far away, and the player is likely to leave only in the summer if a move does happen, Newcastle should be cautious from now on and know the player’s intentions clearly. The Isak saga has already caused a great deal of disappointment for the Magpies fans, and the club should take all necessary steps to avoid a repeat.
