Newcastle's 2024/25 summer transfer window was a complete disaster. Failing to land their desired reinforcements, a prolific center-back, and a wing prodigy, the Magpies club had little to add to their previous season's roster. Moreover, with the club being forced to let go of their two most brilliant talents, Yakuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, due to PSR, Newcastle had one of the worst transfer windows ever.
Jamie Carragher points out the serious mistake that is costing Newcastle now
While analyzing the situation closely in which Newcastle had got themselves, being on the verge of a possible point deduction, the club had to depart the two prodigies against their will. Clearly, with superstars like Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, and Isak's future being in concern, Newcastle took the step to sell the two, but it seems that the possible repercussions have started haunting the club.
Given the potential Minteh and Anderson had, it was certain that Newcastle would repent their away move, and that is what is happening now. However, being a bit surprising, Elliot Anderson has been marking more spotlight than Yakuba Minteh, whose exit was expected to move Newcastle more. Nevertheless, Elliot Anderson's brilliant performance has been biting the Magpies club, who once again shone for Nottingham in their recent fixture against Leicester.
Starting in Nottingham's midfield, Anderson stood as one of the most crucial players in their 3-1 win against Leicester, with his 1-goal contribution as he assisted Chris Wood for the lead goal. But what is more painful to Newcastle fans is that Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher had this to say for Anderson, even before his recent display:
""Watching him and listening to as well the noises out in Newcastle in the last few days—the fact they had a little superstar there in Anderson, and that’s the one they had to cash in on, but it looks like Forest have got a super player.""Jamie Carragher
Clearly, for Newcastle, this is the worst scenario where they struggle for PL points and find their exit stars shining in their new clubs. However, what has been done can't be undone now, and the Magpies club would have to move on as they face some of the biggest PL names ahead. Newcastle fans would hope the club is able to come out of this disappointing situation soon, getting back on track in their PL campaign.
