- Newcastle's nightmare run continues as they face shocking 0-1 defeat to Brighton.
- Being winless from the last 4 PL matchdays, Newcastle slips down to the 8th position.
Coming on the back of a winless 3-game streak, having 2 draws and a loss, much was expected for Newcastle to turn things around; however, they failed to do so once again. Although Brighton had been in brilliant form this season, the way the Magpies club dropped points against Hurzeler's side would definitely hurt them.
Newcastle's nightmare run continues as they face shocking 0-1 defeat to Brighton
With star forward Alexander Isak's return to Newcastle's starting XI, it was believed that the club's goal-scarce might finally end, but in contrast, Eddie Howe's side once again failed to break the deadlock, losing 0-1 to Brighton. Similar to the last frustrating draw against Everton, the side failed to capitalize upon the chances that came their way, losing on important points at St. James Park.
As was expected, the fixture was much enthralling from the initial stages, as Newcastle had come quite close to winning a penalty in the 7th minute, but unfortunately, VAR ruled out a spot-kick possibility. Nonetheless, Magpies Club kept creating chances; however, it seemed as if the fortune had other plans for them, being successful on no one.
In the 34th minute, ace midfielder Sandro Tonali's through ball had Isak in a 1-1 situation against Verbruggen, but the forward couldn't capitalize on the brilliant opportunity. However, Brighton took the maximum advantage of the chance, as against the run of the play, they burst into a counterattack, which was well finished by Danny Welbeck, giving the visitors the 1-0 lead.
Although attempts kept being created by Newcastle on the other end, with their forward front coming quite close on a few chances to equalize, but to their misery, the score remained 1-0 against their favor till the end. As expected, the Magpies club players seem devastated after the loss, having had their amazing home record breached for the second time this year.
With this 0-1 loss, Eddie Howe's side has slipped a standing more, going down to the 8th position in the Premier League table. Certainly, being on 12 points after the 8 matchdays, when they had 10 from the first 4 games, things haven't been going any favorably in Newcastle's favor. Having played two consecutive games against Chelsea now, it remains to be seen how Eddie Howe manages to get the club back on track.
