Newcastle United, being on the back of a winless streak of 3 games, now has had 4 games from their last win. While much was expected from the Magpies' side, as they returned back to PL action, that too at St. James, they couldn't capitalize on the opportunity, falling paltry, 0-1, to Brighton. Although, considering Brighton's recent form, it was clear the fixture wouldn't be easy for the hosts, the way they dropped points here would hurt them.

While there can be several reasons counted responsible for their second loss of the season, the most prominent was obviously their poor show upfront. Similar to their previous PL outing against Everton, Eddie Howe's side, despite creating chances in the opposition box, failed to capitalize upon them brilliantly, falling short of several crucial points. And that is what Club Legend Alan Shearer believes they would need to change going forward.
The PL record scorer, who, unlike many other pundits, had backed the Magpies club for the complete 3 points from the fixture, felt utterly disappointed with the club's matchday display. Speaking on the club's performance, Shearer mentioned,
"“I think there are a few things missing from Newcastle’s performance today and all season, but the biggest thing is in front of goal.”"
- Alan Shearer
Moreover, having observed Newcastle's terrible finishing up front in the last few games, the club legend remarked they need to improve upon this aspect, going further. Shearer remarked,
"“They were so poor in front of goal today and in several other games. That has to change.”"

Although Newcastle's last few games have seen their midfield trio returning back to form, their goal-scarce upfront has remained the same. With star winger Anthony Gordon being out of touch, Isak being unable to find goals with ease, and Barnes going through a rough phase after a brilliant start, Newcastle's frontline issues feel grave.
Clearly, going forward in the season, the club needs to improvise significantly on their finishing to keep their top-4 hopes alive. At the same time, their upcoming consecutive games against Big 6 clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal would play a huge role, which now has become a necessity for Eddie Howe's side to extract useful points from. Newcastle fans would hope that their forward three return to form as soon as possible, ending their winless streak soon.
