Since his signing in August 2022, star forward Alexander Isak has been Newcastle's priority forward. Having established his dominance in the upfront role for Newcastle as soon as he arrived at St. James, having made 13 goal contributions even in his otherwise injury-affected campaign, the forward's repute at the club has been ever-increasing.

In the club's next campaign, the 2023/24 season, Isak goes on to record 25 goals in his 40 appearances, finishing up third in PL's Golden Boot award. Clearly, having established himself as one of the elite forwards in the Top Flight, Isak's presence has been crucial in Newcastle's last few seasons. Considering the same, the club has been keen to renew him further, even though his current contract runs till June 2028.

After having reached the verge of securing 23-year-old ace winger Anthony Gordon till 2029, the Magpies club wants to have Isak renewed as well. However, unlike Gordon's case, the scenario hasn't been that straightforward with the Swedish international, with whom Newcastle has been negotiating for a considerable time now.

Fortunately, recent reports provide key updates on Isak's contract saga at Newcastle United. However, certainly, while it surely gives much clarity on the forward's future, the updates haven't come easy in the Magpies club's favor. As per TalkSPORT, Swedish International Isak has expressed his desire to become the highest earner at the club, apart from having a mammoth release clause in his new contract.

While, from Newcastle's perspective, including an unpayable release clause won't be much of an issue to the club, giving the star forward the status of highest earner seems a bit thought-provoking. Although, certainly, Isak has proven his dominance in the English League, snatching away the tag of highest earner from Club Captain Bruno Guimaraes would be a bit difficult.

However, the upcoming performances of the star player could influence Newcastle's decision significantly. Considering that having been off to a mediocre start this season, being on the back of an injury, Isak holds the best chance to prove his potential to have the highest earner tag. As is being reported, the Swedish international will be back for Newcastle's upcoming fixture against Everton, which comes with a huge opportunity for him.

Overall, a lot of Isak's contract renewal depends on Newcastle's decision, whether they are willing to make him the highest club earner or not. In such a scenario, the Magpies club fans would hope that the player, upon his return, hits his best level once again, proving his contention for the invaluable tag.
