Newcastle United's 2024/25 summer transfer was a completely underwhelming one. Failing to bring in their key desired reinforcements, Marc Guehi for the center-back role and Anthony Elanga for the right wing, the Magpies club had a disappointing transfer event. However, perhaps one of the only positives the club had was that they were able to keep their core star players amidst several transfer interests.

Not to forget, PL Giants Man City had come rather close to swaying away Captain Bruno Guimaraes by triggering his release clause. Similar was the case with 23-year-old star winger Anthony Gordon, who was on Liverpool's target during the majority of the summer transfer window. Although the club had managed to retain their star players, they don't want to take risks with them in the future and have been on a mission to renew their core players.

Newcastle, who have already secured Anthony Gordon at the club for years to come, want to repeat the same procedure with their star forward Alexander Isak. Coming on the back of an excellent 2023/24 season, the Swedish star had attracted interest from PL rivals Arsenal, and thus the Magpies want to end any move possibility, securing him even past his current contract, which runs down in 2028.

However, while certainly renewing Isak is a significant thing on their to-do list, ShieldsGazette reports suggest that the club is currently prioritizing renewing 26-year-old ace midfielder Sean Longstaff. Even though the midfield star has had pretty little game time in the club's last few outings, Longstaff definitely is one of the key players at Newcastle.

Moreover, given the fact that the English midfielder has been Newcastle's homegrown talent, rising through their academy ranks, Longstaff holds enough importance to the club, providing benefits in PSR regulations. Thus, the Magpies club is keen to renew the midfielder, whose current contract with the club runs down in May 2025.

Overall, Newcastle United prioritizing Sean Longstaff's contract renewal could be one of the crucial decisions influencing their future. Not only from the player's playing aspect but also securing the 26-year-old at Newcastle could prove to be one of the best business decisions.
