Ahead of the January transfer window, here is the proposed Newcastle transfer shortlist which I’d love to see Eddie Howe conquer.

Newcastle transfer shortlist: 3 players Eddie Howe must sign in January

The January transfer window cannot come quicker for Eddie Howe and Newcastle United. Given their injury crisis, they should invest like never before. But who will they look to sign?

Kalvin Phillips

To me, Kalvin Phillips is a no-brainer. It’s a move which would benefit all parties since he is surplus to requirements at Man City, needs game time to get into the EURO 2024 squad, and would serve as the perfect Sandro Tonali replacement, since the Italian midfielder is banned.

Kalvin Phillips is still a great player and although he hasn’t lived up to his potential at the Etihad Stadium, St James Park would feel much more like home to him and we as fans would take him under our wing to get him back on the right track. He’d also be learning from the best in a star-studded midfield.

Serhou Guirassy

While a striker isn’t top of our necessity list, it would be a nice reinforcement since Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson are unreliable when it comes to injuries. Certainly, the Bundesliga striker Serhou Guirassy is in FINE goal scoring form and would be our best budget option. He has what it takes to provide some much-needed healthy competition in this position.

Aaron Ramsdale

As much as I love Martin Dubravka, we must start to learn a thing or two from the top clubs. Arsenal and Man City who are the best two sides in the Premier League right now, both have two goalkeepers who are capable of starting for them. Dubravka is simply a cup goalkeeper, so to sign a goalkeeper who could genuinely challenge Nick Pope could benefit both players.
