Newcastle injury news – Callum Wilson injury is worse than expected

We all thought that Callum Wilson withdrawing from the England squad was a good thing. Given his injury record, focusing on his recovery at St James Park was surely a positive for us, right? Wrong.

According to a report by Shields Gazette, the reason for Callum Wilson returning to Newcastle instead of being with the England squad is worse than we initially thought. The report claims that the Newcastle striker faces “at least” 12 games out of contention, as upon analysis, his injury is worse than it was first anticipated.

This is a massive, massive blow for Newcastle and Eddie Howe. We know that the English manager isn’t having the best of luck with injuries this season so to have another striker ruled out of contention is not great in the slightest. I guess the only positive to take is that Alexander Isak is closer to his return and hopeful for a start against Chelsea after the international break.

Newcastle injury news – Sven Botman may require surgery

Football London has provided an update on Sven Botman and while nothing is set in stone, there is a possibility he will require surgery. But it’s not all doom and gloom, as Eddie Howe has stated (quoted within the report) that Botman is doing well and is currently receiving specialist treatment abroad, so he’s in the best hands.

Whether or not Botman requires surgery remains to be seen but we can say with confidence, unless there is a miracle, that Botman will not play against Chelsea after the international break.
