Sandro Tonali was the marquee signing for Newcastle this summer as they wanted to make a statement in the transfer market. Things started nicely for Tonali at the Tyneside. However, the demons of his past came back haunting him again as he is set to get a 10-month ban because of his gambling addiction. He was placing bets on AC Milan matches when he was with the Rossoneri. According to Fabrizio Romano, “Tonali’s season is over.” In his column for the Daily Briefing, Romano discussed the situation with Sandro Tonali thoroughly. He said in that column,

"“We start today’s column with important news on Sandro Tonali – it has been confirmed that the Newcastle and Italian national team midfielder will be banned and suspended for ten months.”"

Fabrizio Romano also dismissed the chances of Sandro Tonali playing for Italy in the Euro 2024 in Germany. He confirmed;

"“The decision has been made – we’re just waiting now for the final formal steps, but Tonali’s season is over. He can’t play football for the next ten months, so he will not be at the Euros with Italy in what is undoubtedly a big personal blow for him.”"

Also, the Italian transfer guru confirmed that Newcastle United will now be looking for a midfielder to replace Sandro Tonali in their squad in January. This is what he had to say in this matter;

"“The decision has been made – we’re just waiting now for the final formal steps, but Tonali’s season is over. He can’t play football for the next ten months, so he will not be at the Euros with Italy in what is undoubtedly a big personal blow for him.”"

Newcastle will miss Tonali as he was a key part of Eddie Howe’s midfield setup. Now, the Magpies need to search the market to find a suitable replacement for him.
