In the buildup to the match against Burnley in the Premier League, it was revealed that Sven Botman had become a doubt to play in the match. Reported on the Newcastle official website, club captain Jamaal Lascelles was granted a start in the match against Burnley, with Botman missing out.
With the important Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain coming up, it’s a race against time for Botman, as Eddie Howe would love to have him back in time. Although, it’s very unlikely that the defender will be ready anytime soon.

Towards the beginning of the 2022/23 season, Newcastle faced Liverpool in the Premier League. It was a match to forget as they lost late on against ten men at home. But other than the loss, Eddie Howe had more reason for concern, as Botman was subbed off late in the match through ankle injury.
Thankfully, Botman returned in time to face Brentford at home. The defender sparked a turnaround in form, as the Magpies thankfully got back to winning ways with his presence noted at the back.
