Arsenal legend Martin Keown thinks Newcastle player Anthony Gordon will be a perfect fit for England and he would choose him or Marcus Rashford of Man Utd.

Former Arsenal player and now a pundit, Martin Keown is full of praise for Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United. The 22-year-old English winger has really shined under the current Newcastle boss Eddie Howe. He had a tough start to his career at the Tyneside when he signed in January. However, from the start of this season, Anthony Gordon looked like a different player. So far this season, he has scored 2 goals and assisted 2. And, that has drawn the attention of many pundits including Martin Keown who has made over 400 appearances for Arsenal. Keown even said that Anthony Gordon is good enough to start for Arsenal when Simon Jordan asked him on Talk Sports.

In that same show on Talk Sports, Martin Keown urged Gareth Southgate to pick Anthony Gordon over Marcus Rashford. While discussing the prospect of Gordon playing for England, Keown said;

"“I would take Marcus Rashford out of the England squad.”"

The ex-Arsenal player gave his reason to pick Gordon over Rashford. He told Jim White and Simon Jordan on Talk Sports;

"“Rashford gives you that explosion of pace but I think as an all-round game, I’m just looking at Gordon here and his team responsibilities have improved enormously.”"

Anthony Gordon has a bright future ahead if he continues to play the way he did at the start of the season. However, getting an England call will be tough for the 22-year-old as the current England manager doesn’t like to change his team as fans can understand with the scenario of the former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire. However, not having to play for England will keep Gordon fit and sharp and Newcastle United need him to be fit because the Magpies will play a lot of game this season.

Do you think Anthony Gordon would get into the current England team?
