Newcastle struggled to keep clean sheets at the start of the season. With three clean sheets on the trot, Eddie Howe praised the steeliness of his players.

Keeping the opponent at bay from scoring is one of the most difficult tasks in Football. And, Newcastle have struggled to keep clean sheets this season. This was one of the major concerns for Eddie Howe. The current season is one of the most important seasons in recent history for the Magpies as they are in the Champions League after 20 years. So, rectifying their defensive performance was something Eddie Howe was looking to do.

In the last three games against Brentford, Milan, and Sheffield United, Newcastle have managed to get three clean sheets. They managed only 7 clean sheets last season. So, Eddie Howe will be hoping that his team’s defensive woes will be solved after their resilient efforts against three very good teams. Howe raised the ‘steeliness’ of his defence in the last three matches. It is something needs from his players going forward in the season as well. Also, the Newcastle boss was full of praise for the Magpies goalkeeper Nick Pope who played a pivotal part in keeping the Rossoneri at bay at San Siro.

Eddie Howe also acknowledges that the different traits of his players will help to keep the opposition at bay from scoring. However, the manager stressed the fact that his team needs to work on the general shape of their defence to make it tighter. The next up for the Magpies will be Manchester City, a team known for their goal-scoring prowess. It will be tough for the Magpies to keep a clean sheet against them. Also, against PSG in the Champions League, Eddie Howe’s men will have their work cut out keeping Mbappe and Goncalo Ramos for scoring.

Do you think Newcastle will have more clean sheets this season than the last one?
