As Eddie Howe hosts Pep Guardiola in the Carabao Cup, here’s the Newcastle predicted lineup vs Man City.

Newcastle predicted lineup vs Man City

Starting off between the sticks, I’ll go with a controversial shout. Martin Dubravka should start this match. He’s the backup goalkeeper for a reason and Eddie Howe shouldn’t wait until “the right match” to start him. Given the heavy competition, there won’t be a right match. He’s good enough to start in this match.

Dubravka will be covered by a familiar centre back partnership of Sven Botman and Fabian Schar. Given that the former got on the score sheet in that enthralling 8-0 match, he’ll hope for plenty of the same. Whether they come up against Haaland or Alvarez, they’ll have to be their usual solid selves in this match.

At right-back, Kieran Trippier HAS to start. He’s been the best player for Newcastle this season and given that he was subbed off after making three assists in his recent match, I assume Howe has him in mind for this match. At left-back, fellow goal-scorer Dan Burn will retain his place in the new role Howe has given him.

I predict there will be one change to the midfield three. While I think Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff will keep their places in the starting eleven, Elliot Anderson will be replaced by Sandro Tonali, who was a sub in the Premier League fixture at the weekend.

Anthony Gordon was another stellar player for Newcastle at the weekend, despite starting the game on the bench. He’ll certainly start against Man City. As the striker, Alexander Isak will enter the starting lineup and on the right, it will be Jacob Murphy.
