Newcastle United are fresh off the emphatic 8-0 win against Sheffield United away from home. It was a great performance by Eddie Howe’s men, as eight different goal scorers were on the scoresheet. Unfortunately for fans, though, there was a big blow as summer signing Harvey Barnes came off early on through injury.
Eddie Howe confirms big Harvey Barnes injury blow for Newcastle
Speaking in retrospect, Eddie Howe has confirmed the injury blow as something that looks pretty serious. While the club are still waiting on confirmation of the estimated length of the injury, Howe issued the following update:
Signing from Leicester City in the summer for a fee of around £39m, it’s clear that Howe sees something in Barnes. At a time where the Magpies needed to sign a rapid winger who could come into the side and provide an abundance of creativity, Barnes was the perfect option.
Harvey Barnes had started the season well, so this is a big blow for the England international. We will, of course, report on any updates involving the winger but for now, we wish him a speedy recovery.
In terms of the upcoming Carabao Cup fixture for Newcastle United, we have predicted that Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy will be the two wide players Eddie Howe will opt for. They are definitely worthy of a place in the starting XI and it could be a big opportunity for Murphy now that Barnes is injured.
