Newcastle United could enter the race for Weston McKennie
By Cade Cracas
One of the United States’ top midfielders, Weston McKennie, has struggled to find his footing in a viable midfield outside of his international side.
In need of a career reset, recent rumors have suggested that clubs have reached out to his current club, Juventus, in hopes that they can cash in on the impressive 24-year-old. As Newcastle United gears up for their 2023-24 Champions League season, the team is looking to bolster their side and McKennie could do just that.
To start the 2023 summer transfer window, Newcastle went out and brought in AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali, who has already made an instant impact in his short time on the pitch through friendly contests.
Alongside his play, his leadership and personality in the locker room have meshed well with the culture that Manager Eddie Howe has instilled within his club.
Well, there is another player who has been on the market for quite some time now that could help add to the locker room. That would be McKennie.
In the 2022-23 Series-A season, he played in 15 matches scoring one goal and passing off one assist. After fizzling out of their consistent rotation, the club decided to give him a chance to grow and sent him on loan to Premier League side Leeds United.
While he performed well for them being a consistent threat on both sides of the ball, the club was unfortunately relegated to the EFL Championship, marking the end of his time with the club.
Leeds could have been that perfect fit for him as he was a constant leader both on and off the pitch, but the EFL Championship is no place for such a talented player.
After returning to Juventus, the talk started on whether or not his future would remain with the club. Since the summer window has started, rumors have swirled on teams calling in an effort to acquire McKennie and it seems as tho they are open to moving on from him.
The club is reportedly asking for a measly €25 million for the talented youngster.
That fee is easily met for the Magpies as they have an abundance of funds available, including the potential for roughly €30 million more coming back to the club after they move on from winger Allan Saint-Maximin.
This acquisition would help bolster the midfield for the team, creating a pairing of Tonali, McKennie, Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes.
However, that would force the team to move on from at least one of the others that sit on the bench. That being Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff or Elliot Anderson.

There have been no official reports that the Magpies are interested in him, but the opportunity is available for him to find a home in the Premier League at St. James Park.
