After being relegated to the EFL Championship, Leeds United is projected to go on a massive selling spree to free up funds to keep the club afloat as they look to rebound following the team’s disastrous 2022-23 Premier League season.

One of those players that could be on the chopping block is center defensive midfielder Tyler Adams, and with Newcastle United on the hunt to bolster their midfield, they have their eyes on the American youngster.

Adams has been a prolific talent in the midfield for quite some time now, and after joining Leeds before this past season, he made his name known in the Premier League.

Through 24 appearances he helped lock down the midfield for the struggling Peacocks. He started all 24 games he played in, recording over 2,156 minutes played on the season.

While the team obviously found very little success, as a player Adams finally started to showcase his international talent in league play.

He is often regarded as a force to be reckoned with as he possesses an impressive combination of athleticism, strength and comfort with the ball. He rarely makes mistakes and showcases a lot of leadership on the pitch.

That leadership has been seen and recognized, with the United States national team giving him the reigns as the captain of the team for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. During that time he helped lead the team past the opening group stages into the opening round against the Netherlands where they would later fall.

However, even with the team falling and being sent home, Head Coach of the U.S. international team, Gregg Berhalter, had high praise for the 24-year-old.

“Tyler fits a very specific role,” Berhalter said during the previous World Cup tournament. “He is the general. He is the strategist. He’s the guy that goes out there and leads by example. When he talks, people listen.”

For a team like Newcastle United that is looking to play in one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world, the Champions League, an addition like him seems almost too perfect.

The Magpies are going to be under immense pressure and stress as the world views them as a top contender for the 2023-24 season, and having level heads in the locker room is going to be important. Adams would easily be able to help command situations alongside both Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes, who currently lead the locker room.

Well, how much would it cost to bring in a player like Adams?

According to recent reports from the Athletic, Leeds is looking for roughly £20 million for him, the same amount they paid to pick him up from Leipzig just a year ago.

That amount can be easily met by Newcastle United due to the team receiving an abundance of funds for the summer transfer window.

But, does the club really need more midfielders? or do they move on from the likes of Joe Willock or Sean Longstaff to free up the opportunity to sign players like Adams?

What do you think?
