Newcastle United interested in Watford’s forward Joao Pedro
By Cade Cracas
Newcastle United has continued to keep their eyes open for the 2022-23 offseason in hopes to make big acquisitions this offseason.
While finding themselves in the race for a Champions League position, the team will need to be competing at the top level come next season. Bringing in strong young talent is a must, and Watford’s Joao Pedro may be that perfect fit.
Throughout his time in the EFL Championship this season, Pedro has continued to impress. In 32 games he’s contributed 10 goals and four assists while helping lead the attack for Watford.
He’s consistently been recognized as a game-changing player, helping the team secure wins down the stretch of the season. Unfortunately, the team sits in 12th in the Championship league, which means they will not be in the Premier League come the 2023-24 season.
Not only does the team get held back, but so does the career of Pedro who is looking to grow in competition level as he is just 21 years old.
The Magpies have remained in the hunt for the youngster since the 2021-22 summer offseason where they attempted to bring him to the club, but he would not sign with Newcastle. However, even after being denied the first time, they remain on the hunt for him and do not seem to be backing down.
Joining the third-place Magpies would not be a bad move for Pedro, and if anything it would heighten his ceiling and grow his career.
The young forward signed a long-term contract with the club keeping him with Watford until June of 2028, which could be the issue for Newcastle as they would have to shell out a decent amount of money to bring him in.
Currently, his worth is roughly £24 million, something the team could easily afford.
