Is AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham an option for Newcastle this offseason?
By Cade Cracas
After a lackluster performance in the Premier League season so far, Newcastle United is looking to bolster their attacking prowess in the 2023 off-season. With just 37 goals through 25 games, the team is far from achieving their desired goals offensively.
Two players, in particular, have not lived up to the expectations recently: Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson. They have struggled to create and convert chances, leaving the team in a precarious situation. However, with the upcoming summer transfer window, Newcastle United could look to improve their team and make a run for the Champions League next season.
Rumors have been flying around that Newcastle is looking to sign 25-year-old AS Roma star, Tammy Abraham. If they were able to sign Abraham, it could potentially change the trajectory of the offense. The addition of a striker with such a proven record could greatly increase the team’s chances of qualifying for Europe.
Abraham’s proven track record would provide exactly what Newcastle United needs from its forwards. The talented striker has an impressive stat line of 97 goals across 230 games at club level. He has also had a promising international career with the English national team, having scored two goals and passed off one assist in the 2021-2022 World Cup Qualifiers.
Abraham’s style of play would fit in perfectly with Newcastle’s other starting attackers. The striker’s pace and ability to make runs behind the defense would make him a target for Newcastle’s midfielders, such as Bruno Guimaraes.
He also poses a significant threat in the air, with his six-foot-three stature making him one of the best aerial threats in the game.
Saint-Maximin has been a standout player for the team in recent years. However, this season he has failed to live up to his potential due to injuries and lack of form. The 24-year-old has scored just one goal in 17 games, which is well below his average.
Wilson, on the other hand, has hit a wall this season. The 29-year-old has shown glimpses of his potential but has struggled with injury and consistency. He has scored seven goals in 19 games so far, which is below average for a striker of his caliber.
The addition of Tammy Abraham could take the pressure off Saint-Maximin and Wilson to perform.
If the club manages to sign the AS Roma striker, it could potentially turn their offensive production around and give them the chance to shine in the 2023-2024 season.
