Newcastle United looked to find its first Domestic Cup championship in over 68 years on Sunday, Feb. 28, but unfortunately could not find the victory in a 2-0 defeat.
At Wembley Stadium, Manchester United came out of the gates fast and got out to a 2-0 lead at halftime, with little perseverance coming from the Magpies.
Newcastle United would be without key players Nick Pope and Anthony Gordon, who were instantly missed from the blowing of the initial whistle. Pope was suspended, with Gordon cup-tied after joining the team in January.
In the 33rd minute, midfielder Casemiro was able to rise up and head the ball into the back of the net for Manchester United. His goal gave the team momentum to build upon as halftime appraoched.
Just six minutes later, Manchester United was able to add another goal onto the board with forward Marcus Rashford finding the back of the net. Rashford, who was questionable to play in the Cup Final, found his 23rd goal of the season.
With Rashford and Casemiro continuing to provide consistent play, Newcastle United was unable to get back into the contest despite their best efforts. Rashford’s play has been sensational since the World Cup, and that remains the same storyline.
Manager of Newcastle United Eddie Howe introduced forward Alexander Isak for the second half, but even the athleticism and speed of him was unable to get a shot past David De Gea.
The Magpies will expect bigger and better finals to come their way in the era of the Public Investment Fund’s backing, but with the play recently from the attacking core has hindered the results in the win collumn.
Newcastle United has now not won a game in February, and will have finished the month going 0-2-2.
