Why is Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon rumored to go to jail?
By Cade Cracas
Newly signed young forward Anthony Gordon has been rumored to be potentially serving jail time. This rumor comes after he was caught driving his £100,000 black Mercedes G-Wagon with his girlfriend Annie Keating a few days before Newcastle United was set to take on West Ham United.
Gordon signed a £45,000,000 contract with Newcastle United just weeks ago in the January transfer window and now has found himself in the light of the press once again.
This past Monday, Jan. 30, he was handed a six-month disqualification on twice failing to disclose details of the driver of his car and after offenses linked to parking and speeding raps last year.
Just two days after being handed the road ban, he was seen parked in daylight outside the Hilton hotel in Gateshead, England, on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
Once he was caught, it was reported that he did not know the road ban was put in place according to Craig Hope (@CraigHope_DM) on Twitter.
“Understand Anthony Gordon was not aware he was banned from driving when getting behind the wheel last week. It is thought he was banned in absentia last Monday when correspondence was sent to an old address. He has not driven since being made aware and is now appealing the ban,” said Hope.
Before and after this past Friday’s practice, Gordon was seen getting picked up by his girlfriend Annie Keating.
The main issue for him however is violating a road ban in England can see up to six months in prison.
While it may be unlikely that Gordon serves legitimate jail time, the report does not help the reputation of the young 21-year-old upcoming star.
