Newcastle United have seemed to set their eyes all over England when it comes to strengthening their squad this summer. They have signed Matt Targett from Aston Villa on a permanent deal, following his impressive loan spell after arriving in January. On the other hand, they have signed Nick Pope from Burnley, as the club were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Another club who were in real danger of being relegated from the top flight of English football were Everton. The Toffees have never been relegated from the Premier League and last faced relegation from the top division back in the 1950-51 campaign.

It looks like Newcastle United have one of Everton’s rising stars in their sights though, in the form of Anthony Gordon, who helped Frank Lampard’s side avoid relegation last season.

As reported by BBC, Newcastle United are interested in Gordon but Everton have no intention of letting him go. The Toffees have already lost Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur and are not keen to lose a second key player.

Despite being just 21 years of age, Gordon has established himself as a regular in the starting XI for Everton and Lampard appears to be a big fan of him. The manager has a brilliant record of developing youngsters from his time at Chelsea, where he helped the likes of Mason Mount, Reece James and Tammy Abraham break into the first-team picture.

Thus, Everton fans would be hoping that Lampard could have a similar impact on Gordon as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he made 40 appearances last season, scoring 4 goals and providing 3 assists.

Gordon is not the only winger Newcastle United have been linked with in recent times. Moussa Diaby seems like their top target but the likes of Raphinha, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Thorgan Hazard and others are believed to be on their radar as well.
