Can Newcastle United pull off a Christian Pulisic signing?

Christian Pulisic has been stuck under the grasp of Chelsea since joining the club four years ago from the Bundesliga team, Borussia Dortmund.

When joining the team, it was expected that Pulisic would be a focal point for the Blues, and his career growth would be positive. Fast forward to 2023, and that would unfortunately not be the case.

Slowly but surely he has fizzled out of the starting rotation with Chelsea and has not been a regular starter for Graham Potter this season. At the end of the 2022-2023 season, it makes sense more than ever for the Blues to sanction his departure and invest the money into the playing squad.

The 24-year-old showed signs of immense talent at the recently-concluded World Cup. Although he was unable to make an impressive career at Stamford Bridge, a fresh start may be exactly what he needs to get his career back on track.

And that fresh start could be with Newcastle United.

It was reported that Newcastle and Chelsea had discussions during the January transfer window, but ultimately no deal was made.

The Magpies are third in the Premier League standings and are currently looking for that next star to propel the team forward. In the World Cup, Pulisic showed that he can be a lead star on a roster and command national attention with little-to-no nerves being shown. For Newcastle United, having someone of that stature when breaking onto the field as a potential Champions League team is important.

On the field, throughout his time at Chelsea, he has contributed 20 goals and nine assists in 90 Premier League matches. While that may seem lackluster, the focal point on the field for Chelsea has never been him. He has always been the third or fourth option, and a fresh start with Newcastle would place him as the first or second option.

He would most likely play on the left wing, giving the forwards for Newcastle more room to succeed with the focus shifting to Pulisic. This also gives the attacking core more diversity, with the addition of Anthony Gordon in January this signing would continue to keep the lads up front young.

Well, what would his price be?

When the January transfer window came to a close, Pulisic remained with Chelsea, but during the window, his price was valued at roughly $50,000,000 US dollars or roughly £42,000,000 pounds.

At the end of the season, Pulisic’s value will only decrease due to his lack of playing time and involvement with Chelsea. His value could theoretically drop to below $45,000,000 US dollars or roughly £37,000,000 pounds. His lack of playing time would also give Newcastle United plenty of leeway in negotiations to bring the price down.

I would expect Newcastle to not go any higher than $60,000,000 or £52,000,000 when going after Pulisic. The young American still has plenty to prove in the Premier League and in his career.

With Chelsea and Pulisic looking for a fresh start, a move at the end of the season is almost certain at this point and the Magpies will be sure to pay close attention.
