There was a lot of uncertainty around Newcastle United when Eddie Howe arrived as the manager of the club. They looked like one of the clubs who were favourites for relegation and many even questioned whether he was the man to avoid it, considering how his last season at Bournemouth had turned out.

It is safe to say that Howe has proven that he is the man for the job and then some, not only managing to avoid relegation but the Magpies are set to finish the season in a very respectable position, especially considering where they were at the turn of the year.

While the kind of moves that the club made in January had an impact as well, one cannot overlook the importance of the manager in this incredible turnaround at St James’ Park.

And it does not look like Newcastle United are overlooking Howe’s achievements at all. As reported by the Daily Mail, the club will open talks with the manager over a new contract as reward for rescuing their season. While all parties are believed to be relaxed about the situation, there is also a realisation that there are only two years left to run on his current deal.

Newcastle United are set to open talks with Howe this summer

It is safe to say that Howe deserves a lot of credit for the job that he has done at Newcastle United till now. Not only has he brought the team together and guided them to some magnificent results, but he has brought the fanbase together as well.

He is the most popular Newcastle United manager in a long, long time and nobody would disagree with the club if he was handed a long-term deal.

Howe has most certainly earned it as Newcastle United have been one of the most in-form teams in all of Europe this year, are still in the running for a top 10 finish and individually, he is in the running for Manager of the Year.
