With their 3-0 win over Norwich City, Newcastle United have climbed up to 9th in the Premier League table. Such a position would have been impressive for The Magpies anyway and then, you consider the fact that they seemed destined to be relegated when Eddie Howe took over as the club’s manager. The turnaround since then has been nothing short of remarkable.

Howe has done an incredible job of getting this team back on track. On top of that, they brought in excellent players in the January transfer window as well, and all of that has combined, to create one of the most in-form teams in Europe.

Only Liverpool have been able to earn more points than Newcastle United in the Premier League since the turn of the year. And with the relegation battle now a distant memory, The Magpies can actually play a bit more freely.

We saw them put in a very good performance against Norwich City, who themselves seem set for the drop. And as reported by Chronicle Live, Howe said after the game:

"“We have been playing under the pressure of trying to stay in the league and we have got a lot of results playing resilient, organised football.“Today, for the first time the shackles came off a bit.“The confidence on the ball was high and hopefully this is a glimpse of the future.”"

It will be very interesting to see how far this team can go. As things stand, they might already be good enough to compete for a top six spot. And hopefully, they will strengthen the squad further in the summer transfer window as well.

One thing is for certain, Howe is the right man to lead the club forward, into hopefully one of the most exciting phases in its history. And the job that he has done since coming in deserves all the credit in the world.

Of course, there is a lot of work left to be done, even this season. Newcastle United will face Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal next, before finishing the season away at Burnley.
