Newcastle United should target striker with more goals than Erling Haaland

A new striker has to be on the top of Newcastle United’s short list this summer. The club do not have a consistent goalscorer at the moment. Callum Wilson is the top goalscorer of the season till now, with just 6 goals. The Magpies must have been hoping that the £25 million signing of Chris Wood would solve their problems up top but he has had his struggles finding the back of the net as well.

As a result, the club have been linked with players like Darwin Nunez of Benfica, Victor Osimhen of Napoli, Hugo Ekitke of Stade Reims, Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton, Armando Broja of Chelsea and several others.

One name that has not been brought up much and flown under the radar this season, despite scoring more goals than Erling Haaland in the Bundesliga campaign, is that of Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick.

Newcastle United should definitely have their eyes on Schick, if it is a goalscorer that they are looking for in the summer.

Schick first caught the eye last summer at UEFA EURO 2020, while playing for the Czech Republic and has shown no signs of stopping since then.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he  has scored 24 goals and provided 5 assists in just 27 Bundesliga appearances this season.

Only Robert Lewandowski has been able to score more goals in the Bundesliga than him. This just goes on to show how good Schick has been and yet, there are not a lot of rumours surrounding him at the moment.

The  26-year-old has always been very highly rated and has finally had his breakout season. And if Newcastle United are able to sign a player like him, the club could go a long way in solving their issues up top.
