Newcastle United have been linked with a number of players in recent times. But one player who has appeared to be on their radar for a while is Jesse Lingard. The English international has struggled for playing time at Manchester United and his current deal runs out in the summer as well. Thus, he is expected to be on his way out of Old Trafford at the end of this season, after coming through the youth ranks at the club.

Lingard might not have done much this season but he showed his quality in the previous campaign, during his spell on loan at West Ham United.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Lingard scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 16 appearances in the Premier League for West Ham United. Suffice to say, he was one of the most in-form players in the English top flight.

As a result, there is expected to be non lack of interest in his signature in the summer. But it does not look like Newcastle United will be the ones signing him.

Newcastle United take Lingard transfer decision

As reported by The Telegraph, Newcastle United have ended their pursuit of Lingard as a move abroad beckons. A move to St James’ Park is off because the Manchester United player’s financial demands are too high to fit into the club’s wage structure.

Thus, it looks like Lingard won’t be moving to Newcastle United even though he was believed to be very close to making the move in January.

Lingard could be headed for a massive transfer in the summer though and has been linked with some of Europe’s elite in AC Milan, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain recently. That is certainly a bit surprising considering the fact that he has never quite been able to show his quality except for his brief loan spell at West Ham United.

Ultimately though, it looks like Newcastle United’s long running pursuit of Lingard is over for food and they would be expected to move their attention elsewhere.
