Newcastle United boost in race to sign AS Monaco star
Newcastle United are expected to strengthen all over the pitch in the upcoming summer transfer window with one of those positions being centre-back. We have all seen the effect that the arrival of Dan Burn in January has had on this team. Eddie Howe could look to repeat that.
Thus, quite a few centre-backs have been linked with a move to St James’ Park in recent times with one of them being AS Monaco star, Benoit Badiashile.
The youngster has been one of the most highly-rated rising centre-backs in the world for quite some time and has also been linked with a move to Manchester United for a few years now. And he has admitted to contacts with Premier League clubs in recent times and that the English top flight makes him dream.
As reported by GOAL, the AS Monaco star said about the entire situation:
"“We all know the Premier League, for me it’s the best championship that exists so it necessarily makes me dream. But as I said before, I’m very well in Monaco and I’m in no rush to leave. I had some touches with English clubs, but these are just contacts made.”"
Badiashile’s comments are a boost for Newcastle United
Badiashile is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in the world right now. Still just 21 years of age, he is already a regular in AS Monaco’s first-team and has been for a while as well.
He is also a huge physical presence at the back and has all the attributes to be a huge success in the Premier League one day. Thus, if Newcastle United were able to sign him, it would be considered a major coup on the part of the Magpies. Now, it remains to be seen if the club do end up making a move for him or not.
Interestingly, both Newcastle United and Manchester United are believed to have had transfer bids for Badiashile rejected in recent times.
AS Monaco are already expected to lose one of their star players in Aurelien Tchouameni this summer though, with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and several others believed to be interested. Thus, it would be interesting to see if they are open to letting Badiashile leave in the same window.
